| Welcome to Dixieland Gaited Saddles where we are celebrating over 13 years as the premiere gaited saddlemaker producing the finest saddlery available for the Tennessee Walking Horse, Missouri Fox Trotter, Kentucky Mountain Horse, American Saddlebred, Spotted Saddle Horse, Morgan, Paso and Rocky Mountain Horses. Each of our saddles is totally handcrafted by highly skilled Amish Craftsmen in time honored traditions unrivaled in todays production line saddle manufacturers. We have been serving the gaited community longer than any other gaited saddle maker in business and were selected by "The Gaited Horse" Magazine as 'Best of the Net' for gaited saddles. We specialize in fitting the gaited horse, but our wide selection of trees and styles make our saddles popular with owners of a variety of other breeds like the quarter horse with high withers. All of our saddles are sold directly to the customer- there are no middlemen. We use the equi-fit method of fitting each horse, and work individually with each customer to ensure the best fitting saddle possible for the horse and rider and guarantee the we offer the best price for the highest quality saddles available. Each saddle is a work of art designed with you and your horse in mind and made to last a lifetime. Whether you choose to purchase an instock saddle, or a custom saddle, we have prices for a complete saddle starting at $1069. All the materials we use for our saddles are hand selected and we use only the finest USA made leather and fittings. Each saddle is individually hand crafted and tooled by skilled Amish craftsmen who take great pride in the quality and durability of their craft which has been passed down thru many generations. The leather used for our saddles and tack is 100% No. 1 grade USA cowhide, tanned in the USA and purchased from the premiere American leather company Wickett & Craig.. All hardware is stainless steel, Montana silversmiths or nickel plated brass. No hardware is used in these saddles that will rust or damage the leather and this includes screws that are used throughout the saddle. All the fleece is heavy-duty synthetic fleece treated to eliminate insect pests. Each leather piece is hand cut from the finest 12-14 oz leather and is fitted to the saddle only after the edges have been smoothed, beveled, hand rubbed and sealed. There is absolutely no machine stamping or assembly line process used for our gaited saddles. You will not find leather of this quality and weight in any other custom saddle at this price. We have 11 different fits and over 30 trees designed with the gaited horse in mind. It is not only important to get the correct width for the horses shoulder, but also, to select a tree that conforms to the horses back. With our fitting system, we are able to ensure that the horses shoulder and back have the proper fitting tree. Each of our trees are designed with the conformation of the gaited horse breeds in mind including the Tennessee Walking Horse, Missouri Fox Trotter, Spotted Saddle Horse, Rocky Mountain Horse, American Saddlebred etc. All of our trees are available in a standard and wide fit and carry the Steele Equi-fit and Equi-Fit Flexible name. Our trees do not just widen the gullet, the bars and twist are specially angled and the rock is actually designed for the different gaited breeds. All of our saddles are designed so that they won't pinch the withers or restrict movement and the higher gullet will not interfere with the natural nod, thereby eliminating soreness. Steele has been at the forefront of the industry in designing saddle trees for the gaited horse, and no other gaited saddle maker offers as many fits and options for the gaited horse as we do at Dixieland Saddles. Before making a gaited saddle purchase, make sure the BARS and ROCK fit your gaited horse instead of just a quarter horse tree with the gullet altered. We also offer and recommend the "FIT TO BE SEEN" fit forms for you to try on your horse to ensure you get a proper fit. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON "FIT TO BE SEEN" FIT FORM SYSTEM The trees earning the Equi-Fit® and Equi-Fit Flexible name are designed first and foremost to fit the horse's back properly, not to get by with a minimum of material. Equi-Fit® bars require three to four inches of wood or polymer. Proper fit is not possible with the two inches and less typically used in many trees today. Each of our trees has approximately eighty square inches of load bearing area. This translates into two pounds per square inch for a fairly typical one hundred sixty pound rider. Some very poor fitting trees have only four to eight square inches of contact creating twenty to forty pounds of pressure per square inch on the horse's back from the same one hundred sixty pound rider. This is all too common, the improper fit being masked by the saddle skirts and pad, leaving the rider unaware of anything other than an ill-tempered horse who steps away to the side during mounting. The design, testing and experience used for the design of our gaited trees ensures you the best fit and quality available. Our rigid trees are made of wood encapsulated in fiberglass which provides for superior moisture protection and is even stronger than the traditional rawhide tree. More information on our flexible trees can be seen by clicking the link at the top of the page. All of our saddles now include the Hand Rubbed Finish which involves 2 coats of Skidmore's Leather Cream, hand rubbed on the inside and outside of the leather (prior to the saddle being assembled) so that the areas that cannot be reached when the saddle is completed are totally conditioned. This process takes an additional 3 days but ensures the softest leather possible on your new saddle. Although a majority of the gaited breeds will require the regular gaited tree, we also offer wide trees in all of our fits (size will be determined when order is placed) for each of our gaited fits. All of our trees feature a 5 year guarantee and workmanship is guaranteed for one year on all of our custom saddles. All of our trees feature a 13 1/2"swell, horn height 3 1/2", Cantle height 5" with cheyenne roll or pencil roll. Our standard saddles feature a deep seat (provides additional security for the rider), and a narrow twist. For those who prefer a flatter seat with less rise, we also offer that . All silver used is Montana Silver and each saddle features all stainless hardware, leather off billet and tie strap, hand laced leather bell stirrups, padded seat, Enduro Balanced Rigging (3-point v-rigging) or double in-skirt rigging (allows for 3/4 or 7/8 rigging).
